Call your contractor and tell him he needs to come back and fix it correctly? Now what do you do when he tells you he doesn’t have time to do that? Do you find another contractor? Do you fix it yourself? Or do you just bite your tongue and be as nice and sweet as possible and just ask him to come back because you are in a real pinch?

With the failed inspection I asked the Inspector why we failed and how to bring it up to code. He stated, “that it was not in his job description, he is not allowed to tell anybody how bring it up to code or how to repair it and the contractor should know what to do.”

I looked up the codes and coached the contractor on how to fix it because he didn’t have a clue. I am grateful he was able to fit us in his schedule as quickly as he did.

My take aways from this are: 1- The job is not finished until you pass inspection, do not pay your contractor in full until you have passed. 2- The Inspector will not tell you how to fix it (at least not in Forsyth County). 3- Educate yourself by becoming familiar with the codes using municodes.com
